Pizza and Politics with Victoria Collins MP – Thursday 23rd Jan
We are pleased to be welcoming our member of parliament for Harpenden and Berkhamsted, Victoria Collins, to Haringey for the evening of Thursday 23rd Jan. After achieving a fantastic 10,708 majority in July (in part due to the numerous volunteers from Haringey!) Victoria has been given the Science, Innovation, and Technology portfolio, so we thought it would be valuable to invite her for a discussion on this important area.
Not only will we have Victoria as our speaker but the evening will also have Baroness Claire Tyler and some of our local councillors who can talk about how the area impacts us on a local level. We invite you to join us for an engaging discussion on how science is shaping policy and how it aligns with our liberal perspective.

reception for Alderman Flick Rea MBE to mark the 50th Anniversary of
Flick joining the Liberal Party and to celebrate her years of service to the
Liberal Democrats in Camden and London. Wine and Canapés will be served – we
will be in touch before the event to enquire about any dietary requirements.

Flick joined the Liberal Party in the spring of 1975, having
volunteered for the party in the General Elections of 1974. She has been, and
continues to be, a tireless campaigner, and represented Fortune Green ward in
the London Borough of Camden between 1986 and 2021, including as a Cabinet
Member from 2006 – 2010. She has served on numerous party committees and also
worked for London Region. Camden Liberal Democrats currently has five elected
councillors and is working hard to increase that number in the next elections
in 2026.
We are formally launching the Elmbridge Liberal Democrat Office (50a Walton High Street) on 31st January between 5-7pm ?.
Tickets are free but a £5 donation per person is very welcome. We will also be passing the bucket / card reader round if you are feeling a bit more generous ?

We are proud to welcome WWAct guest speaker Clare Wildfire, to talk on the topic "Urban decarbonisation: insights from those leading the way, why Woking has a lot going for it and why holding its nerve in climate will support a faster recovery". Her bio is:
Clare is Global Cities Lead at a global engineering, management and development consultancy, where she leads regeneration, low carbon and sustainable innovation projects. From her 30 years’ experience in the sector, Clare combines her practical understanding of construction and development drivers and processes at macro and micro levels with policy engagement, bringing insight into the technical, political, financial and behavioural aspects of sustainable development and low carbon living.
She is a founder member of an industry-led collaboration of infrastructure organisations supporting the UK transition to net-zero, the Net Zero Infrastructure Industry Coalition, and is leading the alliance delivering the Mayor of London’s Zero Carbon Accelerator.

Layla represents Oxford West and Abingdon, and after a period as our foreign affairs spokesperson is now chair of the health and social care select committee.
Layla has an international background; her mother is a Christian Arab from Jerusalem, and her father is a British EU Ambassador. Recently, she's been vocal over the need for a ceasefire in the Middle East.

Daisy Cooper MP for St Albans is coming to Chesham and

Alistair Carmichael MP is a long standing member of Parliament with over 20 years of service, representing Orkney and Shetland.

We are
delighted to announce that Rt Hon Sir Norman Lamb has agreed to visit Bromley
Lib Dems to give us a talk about his political career & his involvement in
the health sector particularly with regards to his campaigning on mental health
issues.
He was
the Liberal Democrat MP for North Norfolk from 2001 to 2019 and he was Chair of
the Science and Technology Select Committee from 2017 to 2019, elected by all
MPs.
He has
served as Minister of State for Care and Support in the Department of Health
from 2012 to 2015 and was Parliamentary Private Secretary to. Nick Clegg in the
Conservative-Liberal Democrat Coalition Government.
As
Health Minister Norman worked to reform the care system and led the drive to
integrate health social care with a greater focus on preventing ill health. He
also challenged the NHS to ensure that mental health was treated with the same
priority as physical health including the introduction of access and waiting
standards in mental health for the first time
He was
knighted in the 2019 Birthday Honours list and appointed chair of South London
and Maudsley NHS foundation Trust in December 2019.
Norman
was a Solicitor in Norwich before his election to the House of Commons and was
previously a Councillor on Norwich City Council.
